Ruth Ann... I recognize that non-Christians do not "christen" nor, in the
accepted Christian interpretation, do they "Baptize." The point can be
etymologically argued that "baptism" (small 'b') is not, strictly, a
Christian rite. My points, though, are that for working purposes of
building a database, Marilyn might utilize the baptism option as the less
offensive pending a future update at which time she might globally change
her terminology. The other option is for 'reports' purposes, do not include
blank fields... leave C/B blank while building database ... and include a
universal Event instead ... terminology of her choosing.
That was what I hoped had come across but as I have said before, no program
can be all things to all people ... although I am very impressed that Legacy
folk express interest in our opinions and seem responsive to 'issues.' I
sense that Marilyn (correct me if I'm wrong) would like the option of having
the entry lines in the work form but with the ability to customize the
wording of the dataform... a bit like a language version ... Name = Nom e.g.
or Baptism = Naming.

But, Scott, people who are not Christian do not either
"christen" or "baptize". I'm not sure if Quakers do,
either. But I would raise a small question to Marilyn - can
you state definitely that no member of your group has ever
or will ever intermarry with someone whose tradition is to
"christen" or "baptize"? What would you want to record if
someone did so intermarry?
