Jim--
Sorry--I didn't mean to unlease a landslide on the subject. I use the
"surety level" code to designate "possible," etc., rather than to
include that within the place name. One of the reasons that I don't
like to add unnecessary words--whether prepositions or adjectives or
anything else--before place names is that when I travel around I like to
be able to produce all records from a given city, county, etc. Of
course it's not impossible to run several lists, but I think it would be
easier to just have everything in one list. I guess there is no perfect
solution that fits everyone's needs.

In my Master Location List I have many locations that start with
"possibly.' This is not a preposition, but an adjective. It does create
problem for finding locations. "Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia" is sorted
in the Y's, but "possibly Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia" is sorted in the
P's.

If I understand you, Larry, the master location list won't be nice. Not
if "Anytown" and "near Anytown" are alphabetized under A and N
respectively. --Beth
