The history of U.S. counties and their date of creation and from which original county is found in The Handy Book for Genealogists, The Red Book, dewey decimal number in our library 929.4, has the same information and I like the format better than the handy book, but know a lot who do not. There is another map book that has the townships listed, cannot remember the name, the number is 973. I think, but not every library uses a dewey decimal system. And one that shows when each county came into being you look at maps more than reading. so there are several books that can do this same thing. sue To unsubscribe: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
