"Atrocious"?? Not nearly so as your response!"

R -- Your opinion... your entitlement.

"I, for one, receive most of my mail through a server that does not support
non-text messages -- not because it's an OLD computer or the operators are
ignorant, but because of A) the non-Windows operating system (there really
are a few others, you know), and B) the possibility of infections from
other, "fancier" file types."

R -- Yes, some employers do have that issue when company computers are used
for personal mail.

"The Legacy list is one of the very few of which I am aware that allows
non-test format messages for the above reasons. Like John, and in contrast
to your emotional assertion, the igrnorance lies with the people who are ".
. .unfamiliarity with the options and/or features of a new e-mail client"
and are, therefore, unable (or unwilling) to take the necessary steps to
ensure that their messages go to this list in text format only."

R -- Not really an 'emotional assertion' ... more a statement of opinion ...
and, well, yes, an emotional response to the continuation of background
whining and humorless complaining which often pervades this list.

"Now, this thread has been kicked around enough. If you feel your toes have
been stepped on, reply privately (the filter is already set)." Jan

R -- You pompous jackass! While you might have felt your toes had been
stepped-on, such was inadvertant ... not of personal intention. This, on
the other hand, is very personal... and intentional. When, by the way, were
you appointed 'guardian of the threads?' Apparently this topic is of
crucial concern to some ... perhaps more so than to others of us ... and, as
such, continues to prompt numerous cautions, complaints and, yes, boorish
posts. The point here, frankly, is that so long as any formats other than
text are acceptable to the Legacy mail-list server, we WILL continue to
recieve occasional posts in those other formats... a fact which has very
little to do with anyone's assertion that those sending such posts are
'negligent' or 'don't care enough.' There will always, on the other hand,
be those who consider themselves and their posts to be so incredibly
important that behavioral control of the rest of us becomes a matter of
formal policy.
