Now I understand the difficulty one might have with family research and locations in the US ;-( We would never have a mailing address other than the address where a person actually lives, I guess that's how it is in most parts of Europe. It doesn't matter where the post office is located (this often is at a different place indeed) - there's the ZIP code (postal code, Postleitzahl) for securing appropriate distribution through the postal network to the address written on an envelope.
