Hi Beverly,

To add to Cathy's excellent instructions, you can set your preferred line
from anywhere in the program: Go to Tools\Set direct line as preferred. When
the box pops up, click "Change" and select your own name from the Name List,
then click "Select preferred line". One question I have: Every time I add
new people to my database, I have to go through this procedure. Is there any
way to set it up so it will automatically put new people in my direct line
into bold?

I also use Tag 1 to tag my direct line. That way, when looking at the Name
List, I know immediately who my direct ancestors are. You can do this by
going to Edit\Tag records, then choosing Tag 1 and Ancestors. In the next
box, choose Direct line.

I also use the color-coding feature. A bit of overkill, but it all keeps me
from becoming too confused. :-)

Sue

Hi Beverly,
There are two ways.
One is to have the bold, the other is to use the preferred child - which
shows with asterisk. You can use both.

First you need to make sure these options are turned on.
Options > Customize > View Tab
check in boxes in Show Preferred and Direct Line Children

Then the program needs to know what direct line you want.
On Family View put yourself (or required person) in main position and
highlight.
Then Tools > Set direct line as preferred.

You can also turn on in Customize the Ancestor Color Coding and set that in
the Tools menu as well - this may be a deluxe feature.

Cheers,
Cathy
