No Michelle, you are not. I had an HP inkjet a
number of years ago. It started having problems
after the warranty. It lasted about 3 years I think,
but I felt it should have lasted longer. I talked directly
to an "HP factory rep." about fixing it at the local
CompUSA store and he took the attitude, hey it lasted
3 years, what do you expect?!?! Buy another one
of our spiffy printers cuz it'll cost more to fix than to
replace.
So I took his advice, sort of, and bought a Canon! Mostly
I guess because I just didn't like the rep's "unsympathetic"
attitude. I found the Canon much cheaper to operate because
of the split ink tanks, where you only have to replace the color
that you've run out of. It started getting flakey a while
ago and I replaced it with the Canon i850 I am currently
using.
Print qualtiy of photos may be somewhat better with HP,
but I've printed some gorgeous prints with the Canons and
the operating costs really are cheaper. Also I think the
Canon print quality has improved over the years where they
are equal or perhaps even superior to the HPs. Even granting
that the HPs are a bit better than the Canons at printing photos,
the difference is not worth the higher operating costs to me.
Also whatever differences there are at printing text and graphics
are pretty marginal to me.
It's an "open secret" that the printer companies "give away"
the printers to make money on the supplies -- ink and paper.
