You have to think outside the usual meaning of "marriage" when entering the
two people who produced an offspring - think of it as a term that covers any
relationship between two people (dare I say man and woman). No genealogy
program can cater for every term that various users might prefer to use to
record every type of relationship - especially one that produces children.
Particularly as the same term really has to be used for all relationships,
otherwise we'd have a Marriage List, a One Night Stand List, A De Facto List
and so on. Something I saw the other day might go some way to resolving
this issue though - it referred to "Union" rather than "Marriage". So we'd
have a Union List instead of a Marriage List. But then I guess there would
be many people (probably me included) who don't like the thought of their
married couples being referred to as a "Union".

Just my tuppence worth!

Cheers
Jan
