Marilyn,
I have found one ancestor who lived in Indian Territory and set up the
location as...
Ardmore, Tishomingo County, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA
and added the following note to the location...
After the Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory combined and
became the 46th State to be admitted to the union [1907], this location
became Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma, USA
I used USA because both the Oklahoma and Indian territories were part of the
USA at the time.
Don't know if this is correct, but it will do until I find something more
correct.
I'm still undecided what to do for a location name for those events that
occurred in Virginia before Virginia became a state [ 25 Jun 1788 ] .
For events prior to 4 July 1776, I guess I would use 'America' instead of
'New World' for the location, but I haven't tackled that problem yet.
This works for me, but I would be interested in how others handle this.
