Using the wife's maiden surname as a middle name may be "normal" in
your part of the world, but certainly *not* in UK.
I would take "Susan Williams Lane" to be her birth name.
At a pinch, if writing to someone in US, I might refer to her as
"Susan (William) Lane", "Susan Lane nee Williams", or "Susan Williams
or Lane" - this last is commonly seen on our official documents.
Please, please, use her birthname as main surname, this ties her to
her parents. All other names as AKAs, with explananatory notes if
needed.
