I picked this idea up from someone else, but it works great:

When the wife's maiden name is unknown I enter:
Given name - Elizabeth
Surname - Daniel**
Then enter in the suffix field [[w/o John Daniel]]
The name list prints the Daniel** at the end of the Daniel surnames like
this:
Daniel**, Elizabeth [[w/o John Daniel]]

Anything in the [[ ]] brackets does not print on reports.
The two ** after the surname lets me know that the maiden name is not known.
This method also works for the husband if you only know the surname.
i.e. Unknown Daniel [[h/o Elizabeth Jones]]

Hope I didn't confuse anyone,

Joanna

I don't know if this would be more confusing to you all but for me it works
I had about 20 or so Elizabeths and many others with first names but no
known maiden name so I finally decide to solve it by this routine. I enter
in the surname space the name of the persons married name followed by (unk
maiden name) so for Mrs Elizabeth Jones it would be Jones (unk maiden name).
As I said it works for me and is clear that it isn't her maiden name. Just
an idea. Star
