What it's telling you is that there are two separate political entities: Richmond (the city) and Richmond County. If you look at a map of Virginia counties, you'll see a "hole" in the middle of some of them, where an independent city is located. The county does not have jurisdiction within the city boundaries.
It's not really a function of a city and county sharing the same name. One example is Frederick County, at the northern tip of the state. The City of Winchester is the "hole" in the county donut. :) Kathie from New Orleans (formerly from Virginia) > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dave > Keeney > > I still don't understand why this would happen just because there's a city > with the same name as a county and that city is not in that county (whew), > but maybe that's what it's really trying to say. > Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
