Yes they stay there - if you put them in the Legacy/Pictures folder - or any other folder accessible to Legacy - that is any folder unchanged on your hard drive.
DeLories was attaching the photos and they kept disappearing - which suggests that the folder she had them in was no longer accessible to Legacy. They were either on CDs or she shifted them after attaching them within Legacy.
