Agreed - I always save every install file so I can reload if necessary, and
if you want a copy of version 6 I can send the install file to you. But of
course Adobe only allowed you to download V6.0 directly, updates come as a
"do you want to update" question with no option to store the file. So I
don't know if the file will currently load later Acrobat Reader V6 versions
rather than take you straight to V7, which I will avoid like the plague
until Legacy can deal with the problem.

I know this moves off Legacy but I'm in the habit of storing downloads into
a separate folder so that if necessary I can rebuild / reinstall. I still
have a copy of Acrobat Reader 6 and am quite happy to stay with it.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Acrobat Reader 7

Acrobat Reader 7 certainly did a nice job on me ...

I have Acrobat 5.05 (Reader, Distiller & Writer) on my PC. Sometime ago I
installed Acrobat Reader 6.0 in a separate diectory and all lived happily.
I could do all my PDF creation work and view in 6.0 those PDF files
containing elements version 5 could not read.

I heard of 7.0 earlier today and installed the reader in yet another
folder. It's been a fun day! When I try to run 7.0, 5.0 starts up and 6.0
has vanished. Yes, 6 has vanished.

I ended up going through a number of 7.0 downloads/intalls (I can't see how
to get 6 anymore) and uninstalls/installs of 5 (CD) and the 5.05 upgrade
(CD).

After a few frustrating hours of
uninstalling/downloading/installing/rebooting (and round and round), I do
believe I am back in working order with 5.0 to create and read PDF's and
7.0 available for those who create non-backward-compatible PDF's. I think
...

I used to downloade Acrobat software with my eyes closed knowing them as
responsible installers. Adobe is now on my beware list ...
