Kami,
The only other genie program I'm aware of that converts Legacy's living flag to a place name is FTM. I know Genbox and Rootsmagic and TMG import it and use it correctly. Most of us would prefer that the capabilities of setting the flag stay as is. The workaround is to export your gedcom, then edit the gedcom to remove "1 DEAT Y". In MSWord for a really large file, this takes 4-5 seconds. Resave the gedcom and go ahead with the import.
But on the other hand, leaving it in gives you a good tool to search for to find out who in your database is living or not. All according to how you want to use it.

Subject: [LegacyUG] portability issues: "deat y"
I've just purchased Legacy and I'm trying to make sure that I have all the portability I need so that I can exchange information with users of other programs via GEDCOM.
I've imported my file to Legacy, poked around a bit and then exported it.
When I exported from Legacy, my GEDCOM now has new tags in it " 1 DEAT Y".
I've found that Legacy will ask me if someone is really living after xyz number of years - I have an option of Y / N but no option to cancel the question without an answer. I'm guessing that this is where this "1 DEAT Y" is coming from. How do I prevent this from happening?
If I reimport this into my FTM V11 I get a location of Y associated with the individual's death. That is certainly not portable!
Thanks, Kami
