Firstly I make a template of my html page (and a back-up) with the link to the style sheet included in it. Then copy/paste the whole of the Legacy page into it.create a space in the meta lines and copy/paste the ones from Legacy which you require into the space and delete the doc statement and *head* lines from the Legacy page.
However as Steve has said the *html* code in Legacy comprises nested tables and these are not properly nested. Whilst in normal use the browser will compensate for this if it being nested inside, say, a table comprising a header and footer any spare tags hanging around are likely to ruin both the header and footer. I find it easier to correct the Legacy page before copy/pasting to my own page.
Note that all this has to be done for every page! If it is the intention that eg. colours can be changed easily from the style sheet then every colour tag will need to be substituted with the css class, again on every page.
Finally I suggest testing the first page done in at least two browsers (eg IE and Netscape) to ensure the revised code is not browser specific.
Good luck - it's a slog!

Subject: [LegacyUG] customising web output
I have been customising web output from Legacy 5.0 but have struck a few limitations. I'm wondering if there is something I'm overlooking.
Despite selecting 'remove program generated headers', Legacy still puts in
the opening html tags up to and including <body>, leaving me no place to
declare a stylesheet and put in meta tags. I would also like to output with
a '.shtml' extension to allow me to use SSI to pull in standard headers,
footers etc.
I'm guessing none of this is possible but if anyone can tell me differently
I'd be very interested to hear.
Regards,
Grant Buttars
