. Barbara,
I have the same problem with my father's family tree, my grandparents are 6th cousins to each other, my 4th gr. grandparents are 1st. cousins, and from there back it getseven more convoluted. I have one gr. grandmother (about the 10th) who ends up being her own mother-in-law, and I know it isn't a mistake.
There are no charts in Legacy that I can use to see the whole picture as I keep getting stuck in circles. I don't know of any genealogy programs that can handle this kind of situation in a report. I was going to put the tree on the World Tree site, however the first thing I read was No trees with intermarriages... I use TreeDraw to make my charts. You do have to pay for it and it does have a long learning curve but is worth it. I also use the name list a lot for names like Anna and Marie as there are so many in my line. If I use the name list : detail, I can see if they have the same birthdate etc., easy to check for duplicates, I also check for different spellings. I also have put in their names while editing like so:
Marie Gautreau (1st wife of Francois Gautreau), Marie blah blah, (2nd wife of so and so) etc. When I have it sorted out as to who is who, I delete what is in the bracket, as that doesn't look good on charts.
If I can help any further e-mail me privately. Good Luck.

I am deeply confused by my apparent ancestry and could use some suggestions on using Legacy to clarify the picture for me. I have several families that intermarried and pretty much every woman is named Marie. Between the duplicate names and the criss-crossing marriages, I'm having a difficult time seeing the big picture. The mess started when I discovered that I'm a direct descendant through both wives of an ancestor born in 1613.
Francois Gautreau - 10th great-grandfather 1st wife: Marie Unknown - 10th great-grandmother - Marie Gautreau Potet - 9th GGM 2nd wife: Edmee LeJeune - 10th great-grandmother - Marie Gautreau Theriault - 9th GGM
The two lines merge at my 5th great-parents. Before and after this generation, I have some uncles marrying neices and other joins which make my tree more like a pretzel.
I suspect this is probably not an uncommon scenario, so would those with a similar situation please point me to any Legacy feature that will help me get a better handle on this.
Thanks!
