Some of the older CD software doesn't allow applications (like Legacy) to write directly to the CD. Some of the software has a "Direct CD" add-on that adds that capability. Actually, the programs that appear to write directly are probably writing to the hard disk, then to the CD, just hiding that step from the user. If direct back-up works for you, fine.
