Dr. Heard, What I do is print my html pages to a PDF file and then attach that. I use a free PDF program called "PDF995" which can be found at: http://www.pdf995.com/
The other option would be to create a picture or snap shot of the screen. You can do this by (assuming Windows) pressing Alt-PrintScreen. This takes a picture of the CURRENT window/application. Sometimes I just hit PRINTSCREEN, which will do then entire screen, which is nice if you want to get the time/date on the snapshot as well. Then you will need to paste this image (do one at a time) into some other program to make the image. I use the free paint program with windows for quick and dirty work. Now the downside is this only gives you what you see on the screen. So if the pages scrolls down, you will need to do several shots. [NOTE: DO NOT USE Word to paste in your pictures. The problem is that MS Word does not store the picture in a usable format and you can not copy /paste out of word (not nicely anyway).] The advantage of the PDF file is it "prints" the whole page. The advantage of the snap shot method is that it will be easier to print in your files. I don't think Legacy will print a PDF file when you print your notes, but it will if you have attached at JPEG file. If you have questions, feel free to write to me. Obviously, one *could* first cut-and-paste a 'screen image' of an "html" document into "plain text" and then paste that (plain text) into "Notes", or "Details" or whatever. Indeed, I *have* done that! However, it would be nice to treat 'html' files just like photographs ('jpg' or whatever format), or Video (.avi or .mov files but, not, I believe (yet) mpg files), or Sound files (.wav, .mp3 or .mid files) and "attach" an 'html' file to an Event (or to a Source) directly in the 'Notes' or 'Detail' *without* first having to convert to plain text. I know that one can, and I do, "include" 'html' files as a "pseudo" Sound or Video image, but the trouble with that is that "thumbnail image" gets displayed only as a 'Sound' or 'Video' icon, rather than as a thumbnail of the actual document. That said, actually "opening" the thumbnail (which is, sadly, unidentified at first, except for the visual label "Video" or "Sound") *does* display the 'html' file correctly - in my normal, default "browser". All it would take, I *think*, is for the "picture" handling part of Legacy (most especially the "Picture Centre", but other bits as well!) to recognise 'html' (and, of course, 'htm') as a *standard* file type *at all stages* and to open it (as thumbnail or 'windowed' document) accordingly. ================= Dr Kenneth S Heard Bassett Southampton SO16 3NQ England Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
