I thought my answer wouldn't make much sense if you weren't practiced with tagging.
When tagging descendants, you can't specify how many generations - as you've discovered, you get the lot.
Assume you've tagged them on Tag 1
Go to the 6th generation children (you can use the Descendant View or a Descendant Chart to see who they are)
Either - print a Descendant Chart - use Generation Numbers and include RIN.
then use the RIN to find each person and untag (on Tag 1) their descendants - same procedure as tagging but you check the untag box instead of the tag box.
Or from the Descendant View
Find those people with a 6 before there name. Right click and choose tag and untag their descendants on Tag 1
If you don't think you'll finish in a session (I don't know how many descendants we're talking about) add a column in Descendant view for Tag 1 so that you can see where you are up to.
I would probably use the 5th generation (less people) but then you need to retag the fifth generation person and their spouse - just double click in the Tag 1 column.
Make sure that each time you choose Descendants and not Entire Descendant Line.
That should leave you with your 5 generations tagged on Tag 1
Come to think of it - that's what I've been thinking of doing and now I've thought out how :-) I've never used the Descendant View to work in and now I've found a use for it beyond display.
Cheers,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for the instruction. I thought it may have been something to do with tagging. Have never used the tagging facility before, however, managed to tag his descendants and although requesting a limit to 5 generations ended up with the whole of his line. Did reduce the numbers to 50 or so individuals.
Would you mind explaining how one goes about removing the 6th and 7th generations. Some of the help file instructions seem a bit skinny on detail.

Ted
