In Index View, alter the column width by:
1) putting the mouse poiner over the column divider line, left click when you
see "the handle", drag, release
2) if the last column goes off the window, use the horizontal slider at the
bottom of the window to move to the right.
3) or, short another column temporarily to compress the display onto existing
window size,
resize the last column(s), then resize the shortened column back.
Saving column widths:
1) After resizing per the above steps,
2) Go back to customize and save (or re-save) to a layout name, this should
save the column width.s
I'll look at Decendent View separately when I get a chance and see it crashes
for me as well. Can anyone else duplicate this error in Descendent view?

When you have the Index View open, how do you alter the column widths if you
can't see the end of the column title? My columns seem to default to the
full width of the window and I can't get hold of a "handle" to change the
width. The "customise columns" doesn't allow you to set the width.
I also seem to have a very similar issue with Descendant View - however you
change the columns the result doesn't "stick". But worse than that, if I try
to change the width of the columns, then after 2-3 changes Legacy crashes.
Or rather gives one of those annoying error boxes (error 6145) with three
options for Try Again - Yes, No, Quit. Needless to say none of them does
anything except the Quit.

Index View - Column Sticking (or not) ---
Try this:
After you customize the columns you want AND have the widths set to what
you want, go back to customize and SAVE that layout with a name. Maybe
design a second layout, adjust widths, and SAVE under a different name.
Now, when you right click on the column heading in Index View, you get a
list of the 'saved names' of your column layouts that you can switch to
quickly AND it has remembered you column widths. This seems to remember the
widths between Legacy sessions. (I did have a width memory loss if I went
back through customize, used LOAD, then exit.....but you don't have to do
that.) If this doesn't keep the width stuck to what you set over multiple
sessions, then I think we should try to narrow down the causes and report
them.

Sometimes they stick for a few Legacy sessions ... then suddenly revert back
to default width. I have no idea what causes this. And I have used Legacy
for
4 years.
