Keith,  I don't do much exporting, so please excuse me if I'm off base here, 
but why not run the export on your dad and his ancestors (rather than 
yourself, I mean)?  --Paula

I would export the entire database to another Legacy file. Then open this
copy
and unlink the mother from her parents (I assume you want her ... just not
any
of her ancestors). Now you should be able to create a focus group of your
paternal line and export it to a GEDCOM. When done you can just delete this
copy.
