Hi Marina, 

I have my document types grouped into broad categories (Vital, Land, Census,
Military, Court, Burial, Publication, Photo etc.) You can develop the groups
to suit your needs...

Vital= Vital 1, Vital 2, Vital 3 = Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates 
Land = Land 1, Land 2, Land 3 = Purchase and Sale Deeds, Plat Maps etc.

I use this system and find it works very well for me :-)
