Once again, I have a problem with the way the Legacy program handles merging
 in the split screen mode.

Please read my example:

You have a family of just husband and wife (no parents and no children).

You find a Gedcom file with the husband and wife, but this time the Gedcom
has their parents and all their 10 children.

Backup your file!

Use the split screen function and load the Gedcom as "Create a NEW Family."

This is where most people have a problem getting the new people from the
right into the group on the left (your main database). Position the same
information on right as the one on the left, only this time you will see
parents and children in the new Gedcom, on the right.

Instead of dragging over a new person and dropping them into blank area,
never never land.... drag the male parent over from the right screen and
place him in the blank box designed for the male parent on the left screen
Then drag over mom and do the same. Then drag over each child and place
him/her in the children section below dad and mom (on the left).

Now as you drag each new person over they are linked, properly, to the
correct person on the left, weather it is their parents or children.

The software does all the work. .

Now, if you want a pop-up menu to add the ancestors from the right Gedcom,
so be it.

You could do the same thing with a child's spouse and descendants, if they
have any.

This is the true meaning of drag and drop. I've always heard, if you can
think of it, a good programer can do it.

What say you?
