Yes! Yes! Yes!  I completely agree.  I do the same.
As I've posted before,  Writing Albany, Albany County, New York, USA
adds very little if any information to Albany, New York.  Same for Québec
City,
Québec, Québec, Canada vs. Québec, Québec, etc. etc. etc.  Now, latitude and
longitude in a comment, that's a whole different ball game!
