Hi;

I just joined the list, although I've been a long time Legacy user.
Although I myself have only been doing genealogy for about three years, I
inherited a project that was started in the 1930s. I've also recently
become active in the field of genetic genealogy. Professionally, I'm a
senior software engineer, and for the most part I've been more than
satisfied with Legacy from both points of view.

Having said that, though, I have to add that I upgraded to 6.0 Deluxe this
afternoon (it was announced over on the Genealogy-DNA-L list), and I don't
feel that it lived up to the hype. A long-standing annoyance of mine with
the relationship calculator wasn't fixed - although I was promised several
times by the support staff that it would be. In addition, I would have to
say that the DNA support was very definitely not ready for prime time.
Female line (mtDNA) is entirely missing, what is there doesn't seem to have
been integrated into any of the reports (so you can only look at it using
the program), and most critically, there's no idea that a DNA signature is
something associated with a LINE rather than just an individual (which it
is), so much of the value of recording DNA testing is lost. (It would
also help if mismatches were picked up as part of the 'potential problem'
scan.) The new kiddie-cartoonish XP-style graphics are cute and
undoubtedly took a lot of time, and the various embedded web links are
snazzy, but some people are going to feel that those resources could have
been better spent.

Now, having stomped in and made myself obnoxious in my usual inimitable
style, I'll sit down.

Glen
