Just curious: I have v5 standard; if I were to

I lose all the work I've already done? Would it be
best to treat it as an upgrade and just install v6
over v5?

No you will not lose your work! When a program is uninstalled
ONLY the files created at the time the program was installed are
removed. Any files created later through use of the program are
not touched. In many cases this even includes any special
settings files and user option files.
By uninstalling the older version of Legacy you are removing the
files Legacy 5 installed in places like the windows system, and
windows directories and cleaning out the registry entries that
Legacy 5 created (including the listing of Legacy 5 as a program
in the installed program list). For those who do not know, the
Windows registry is a set of files used by Windows to keep track
of programs, hardware installations, users and program settings.
Some of these files may be recreated later when you install
Legacy 6 and that is the risk you take if you do not uninstall
Legacy 5 before you install Legacy 6. If you Unistall Legacy 5
from the windows list of installed programs then the Legacy 5
uninstall will think it was the one that created these common
files and will delete them. This will break your Legacy 6
installation since those files will no longer be there when
Legacy 6 tries to use them. To get the missing files back you
will have to reinstall Legacy 6.
