Thank you for the info Jim. I use Ccleaner on my system and clean it up
often - also run a thorough scan and defrag. I also use Spybot and
Adaware to make sure I have a clean computer. The registry I leave alone
now. I used to clean it up, but then once I got a corrupted registry and
thought the cleaning up may have caused it. I had to start over and
completely reinstall my operating system, so I'm reluctant to tamper
with the registry now. As for Start-up programs I've made sure they're
kept to the minimum. I've even used msconfig to disable some of the
unnecessary ones. The point is my operating system was reinstalled about
two months ago and I carry out regular computer maintenance, so Legacy
6.0 should run on it. Also my computer is far from old. It was an XP,
but before I uplifted it from the shop I had them put in W98 as it
suited me better. The DLL Hell sounds an interesting. I'd like to hear
more about that if anyone can help. Thanks again for your interest.
Regards Patricia

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] First problems with Legacy 6.0

Patricia,

You might be suffering from "DLL Hell".
It is more common in older Windows OSs.
I am not an authority on DLL Hell, but in
short it is a conflict over which version
of a particular dll file is required. Sometimes
you may have more than one in different
directories and your program sees the
wrong one.

I don't know the solution. Maybe someone
else.

Windows OSs get very dirty. Also when
reinstalling, be sure to clean your
windows\temp directory. Before any install
in Windows I run Disk Cleanup and Disk De-
fragmenter. They can be found by going to
START>>ACCESSORIES>>SYSTEM TOOLS.
Also before install update your anti virus
software and run it, update your
anti-spy ware software and run it. I.e., get
your box as clean as possible. Then turn it
off for 2 minutes, restart, and install.

Other things you can do is clean the registry.
There are many programs that can do this safely.
My software found over a hundred bad entries.
Also check what startup items are turned on.
Some of them may cause conflict.
