This is a very unsafe way to be. Your computer is at risk of being taken
over by hackers. It only takes seconds for a computer to be infected
with malware once they connect to the Internet with no protection. I've
also wondered if malware was causing your problems.
Well I am not sure you can say it is NOT Legacy. Because it works on some or
most computers just means it works well in your environment. In my
environment it doesn't work. Obviously I thought there was something that
conflicts with the functioning of Legacy. However, I have even reformatted
my drive and installed JUST Legacy...with no other programs or anything.
Still didn't run. So does that mean that ONLY my version of Legacy is
conflicting with Windows XP (since that is the only programs installed on my
computer after reformatting)
It could be that your page file is not set correctly. With your amount
of RAM, I think that there is something else going on. What sort of
security software are you using, if any? Two of the major brands are
very bloated and cause a lot of conflicts. As someone else pointed out,
it could be caused by a video card conflict. Updating the driver may
remedy that if so.
What my original comment was, however, was that it took a lot of memory to
run the program...and does it really need 65 MB to run a report. My issue
with Potential problems report has been long standing and I just don't use
it anymore because it doesn't work. But will the memory demands keep going
higher to the point where other functions will stop working for people who
have say, only 300 MB of memory.
I haven't had any problems running Legacy 5 Deluxe on an old laptop with
160MB of RAM, though I tune up and secure computers for a living, so I
have it running lean.

I'm not sure what's wrong, but I'm having a hard time believing that your
problem is legacy. I too am running 1 GB of RAM with only 1400 AMD
processor. I am currently running 41 processes in the background, legacy,
Outlook, dictating this message with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and doing
multiplexing on two different monitors. I'm not having any problems with
crashes due to the way legacy is handling the memory. I would think that
with over 700 MB of memory legacy was causing the crashes that you're
having, then just about everybody's computer would be crashing. You might
want to check for conflicts, and or run a system diagnostic. By the way,
just to make sure that the potential problems report is not the problem, I
ran a potential problems report while I'm doing all of this,-it still
working fine. I wish I could help you, but I really don't think your
problem is not with legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Memory Hog??
I'm not sure if it is just me, but Legacy is quite a memory hog (and I'm not
meaning that to be rude...just what I have experienced on my computer). I
feel it takes a LOT of memory to run the program and this may be a limiting
factor in people buying the program. When I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, I notice that
just sitting there doing nothing it takes a whopping 40 MB...but if I run a
potential problem report, it takes 65 MB of my memory...and then in crashes.
That's not such a big deal. Right now, I have one program consuming over
50MB, one using 44MB, three at about 30 MB and three between 10 and 30MB
and numerous others. I can easily load up Legacy now and it would not be
a problem for me to use and my database is about 54MB (file size). I
only have 512MB RAM on this computer.
I have 752 MB of memory and very little running in the background...but I
had this same probem with v5. I can do most everything but run potential
problems reports....and I still can't run those reports. After climbing to
65 MB the program freezes and then I get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).
I have even tried running Legacy when Windows XP is in "safe mode" but it
won't let me run potential problems reports when there is no printer
installed (safe mode does not load printer drivers).
