Wow, I guess I haven't looked at all the v6 goodies yet! Thanks for
pointing this feature out. I just tried it out by tagging two example
locations as they are in my system now:
Current Long: , Early County, Georgia, USA
Current Long: , Elbert County, Georgia, USA
Current Short: Early County, Georgia
Current Short: Early County, Georgia
In the expand/contract options screen I clicked the following options:
"Contract Short Location Names," "USA State Names," and "Only tagged
locations," but the short names did not change.
Then I edited the short locations so that they looked exactly like the long
names (i.e. added back the leading comma and the USA at the end). This
time, I got the state abbreviation in the short name, but I am left with
that leading pesky leading comma. It seems that it will only abbreviate the
state when the state is in the expected 3rd position.
Am I missing something again? Cathy thanks for all the help you give the
users on this list! I always look forward to your notes.

Hi Gail,
Have you looked at the US options already available?

Maybe there is another way though. It would be nice to have a switch so
that U.S. states could globally change back and forth from their spelled
out versions to the 2-letter abbreviations for charts and for the word
"County" to be stripped just for charts. Now I know that I am not
addressing the many non-US location issues with this, but maybe someone
else can step in with those naming conventions.
Other thoughts?
