Hi Bill,

It sounds as if you did the unlinking OK and adding the missing family - but didn't get to the linking part.

Find your GGGF in the Index and highlight (or however is most convenient for you to find people - I like the Index View) and then go to the Family View where he will now be in the Main Left position. If he had more than one wife, make sure he has the right wife - the mother of your GGF next to him. (Tip: You can cycle through spouses in Family View by left clicking to the outside of the spouse - click to the left of the husband to cycle through his wives.)

Then right click in the Children area and choose Add Son - then Link to Existing Person - and find your GGF in the list that comes up.
Done

It's easier to add a child to the parents rather than parents to the child. Less avenues for mistakes.

Then everyone should be linked up correctly. Send another email if something else goes wrong.

I was out of town for awhile and upon my return got back to this problem. I have no idea what I did wrong but, although I did get my missing GGF inserted ok, I have now apparently deleted my GGGF and all previous generations. When I do a search they are all still there (somewhere) but I can't figure out how to link them back to where they should be. Maybe it's just me, but Legacy seems to be very unforgiving when one makes a simple mistake. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!

Bill
