Isn't that what the UserID is for - your own reference number? Which can be
the RIN until you manage to renumber them.

The importance of RIN numbers have very little to do with genealogy...they
are actually only a means for the database to track individuals.

Unless you keep paper copies of your ancestor file organized by RIN number;
if you do and the RINs royally mess up you have a genuine problem.
