Gail,
The work around is to manually enter the formatting characters as
described in Legacy Help for the Standard version. I have just tested it
and it works and it "sticks".
Remember that the characters we are talking about here are not << and >>
the are « and » entered by entering alt-0171 and alt-0187 respectively.

I have tried using the <<b>>text<</b>> formatting. I have also tried
typing the word in my notepad and then bolding it and doing a
copy/paste into the Master Source Title field. The bolding does not
stick once I save the source.
