One of my family has w98 on their computer, but we tried Legacy 6. It had
problems, so we went back to Legacy 5. However, Legacy 6 updated the
database in the brief time we tried it out, so Legacy 5 would not open it.
We could not find a Legacy 5 copy of the database, so I took the Legacy 6
database and made a GEDCOM to put in Legacy 5. However, we got an error
message that we had to have a later Legacy to open the file. Oh Oh!
I thought that the computer must be thinking the GEDCOM was a database, so I
went through the same process in different ways several times, but always
with the same result. Legacy showed a database just a little larger than the
GEDCOM with each name we had given it, but of course we could not see what
was in there.
Is Legacy keying on the SOURCE statement in the GEDCOM which says Legacy 6?
Shouldn't the program ignore that and accept any GEDCOM? I have done this
same thing in the past with versions of Legacy, and had no problem.
