For those of you who are good at editing Legacy-produced GEDCOMS, I have a
question. Many of my events, such as census events, start with a blank
first line in the notes section. I did this so the sentences would read
better. For example, a census event would read:
In the census taken 15 Jun 1900, John Doe was enumerated in Anytown, USA.
1) John Doe
2) Jane Doe
3) Baby Doe
If not for leaving the first line blank, the program would try to cram the
note detail "1) John Doe, etc." on the same line with the census sentence.
This trick works fine in Legacy, but does not look so good on my new web
site using TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding), which pulls
from my GEDCOM, blank lines included.
Now, I would like to get rid of every first line in any note that is blank.
I went into MS Word and looked at the GEDCOM. It appears that many, if not
all, of these blank lines are on a line starting with "2 NOTE." I can
search for all "2 NOTE"s, but some of them have text that I don't want to
zap. Also, if I replace with just "" then it still leaves a blank line in
the GEDCOM coding.
It's probably obvious to those with experience out there that I am a novice
with GEDCOM editing. I'd appreciate any advice on what to use for editing
and some general how-tos. Feel free to do this off-list if it strays from
that which would be helpful to Legacy users in general.
Thanks in advance and check out my new web site if you like!
