This is an issue for me too, so could replies be through the list or
forwarded to me, please.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Working with a Legacy File in MS Access 97

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me offline with a little work I want to
do
on my Legacy file using Access.

When I first set up my census events in Legacy, I didn't realize I could

insert a carriage return [CR] place holder in the event definition to
insert
a blank line between my event sentence and the actual event
notes/transcription. Therefore, I inserted a blank line manually by
hitting
"Enter" at the beginning of each Event Note. I have almost 19,000
events
and it is not practical for me to go through each event and delete these

extra lines.

I could just edit the GEDCOM file, but then I would have to do this each

time I export the GEDCOM to update my web site. The reason I want to
eliminate this line now is that it looks bad on my new TNG web site
which
uses PHP.

It seems that another possibility to get rid of these lines would be to
use
Access to make the changes to the Legacy file. It's been a while since
I
used Access, but I used to be fairly good with it. I only have Access
97
though. The main issue now is that when I try to open my Legacy back-up

file or even a GEDCOM of it, Access doesn't recognize the file format.

I've seen other posters on this list mention using Access to manipulate
Legacy data. Could someone help me figure out how to open a file? I
think
I can do what I need from there.

Thanks in advance for your help offline.
