G'day from Perth, During the night a cooperative distant family member / genealogist has emailed me 2 GEDCOM files which apparently include a lot of extra information to what I already have.
However, (after retrieving them from my junk mail folder - where they mysteriously went) I'm not yet able to open them via the email attachment. (My IT man - who does not know about GEDCOM's like me was not able to offer a reason or solution so I turn to you folks. The attachments are unopenable because 1) "Operation failed. An Object could not be found" 2) The body of the emails included characters that appeared to be the code and some of the field contents. Being the first GEDCOM that I've received I've been unable to get the hang of how to deal with them so we think that I should refer the challenge to the "font of all knowledge". I wonder if there's some essential software / add on/plug in that I need? I have Free V6.0.0.73 on XP Pro. Before I go back to my supplier in USA (still asleep probably) to ask him to check that he's not sent a corrupted file or 2 before rectifying and resending I should check my receiving capability. I'm in your hands I think.
