There's no need for a bricks-and-mortar storefront, a developer only needs a PC, a phone, and an internet connection, and printing and packaging would probably be jobbed out anyway. After all, I do quite a bit of work for a software company in New Hampshire, and I've never been to their physical location (I live in Colorado). Several of their support people are also in different parts of the country. Cheaper for the company, since we provide our own offices, and eliminates the expense and pollution of unnecessary commuting.
