Dave,

I understand the logic of what you are saying. However I did a search of my
database for those with "never married"=checked. A small number of those
have children listed. On the family tab for those with children the
"marriage information" bar doesn't say **Never Married**. However, when I
open the individual's information screen it still has the box ticked. These
were all entered before the latest change to the wording.

I tried a test in a new file and what you say is correct - If you add a
child, the checkmark is removed. But, you can then check it again and it
stays checked - maybe the box should be greyed out and not permit the
checkmark to be set once children exist.

The original concern still applies though. There are two distinct events
- getting married
- having children
It was, and still is, quite common for a person to have never married but to
have given birth. It is clearly possible to know that a person did not
marry. But could it really be known that they didn't have children? So, what
is the purpose of the checkbox?

Jack

The option on the Information screen was changed to "This individual never
married and had no children" because that is what it always really meant.
If the checkbox was checked for a person and you later added a spouse or any
children, the checkmark was removed automatically. It always worked that
way. We added a new option to the Marriage screen of, "This couple did not
marry" as a place to signify that there was a relationship with another
person that was not a "marriage." So, we have all the bases covered.

Again, if you had check the box on the Information screen in previous
versions and then added children, the checkmark was removed.

Thanks,
