Then I can't think of a good way to do what you want.

I am not even sure your idea of a Search & Replace on tagged groups (I
assume you mean groups of individuals) or focus groups would do what you
want. I suppose you are thinking of tagging all individuals who use a
Census event, then performing a Search & Replace against these tagged
individuals for an exact Event Date of 1787 and replacing it with Jun
1787. This might not work because these tagged individuals might have
other events (different Event Type) with an exact date of 1787. You
might get lucky, but you will still have to take a look at each
replacement to make sure.

Doing what you want in Access would look something like...

UPDATE tblER INNER JOIN tblET ON tblER.IDET = tblET.IDET SET
tblER.EventD = "000007178700000000", tblER.EventSD = 17870715
WHERE (((tblET.EventType)="Census") AND
((tblER.EventD)="000000178700000000"));

P.S. Always backup before doing any updates with Access.
