Colleen:
The brackets are square looking:
[ ]
Here is another suggestion that I use:
If I do not know the last name of a wife (Berthia), but know the
husband's full name (Samuel Ackley), then I enter the wife as:
Given: Berthia
Surname: [[Ackley, Wife of Samuel]]
I use the [[ ]] brackets and it makes this information private & it
does not print out in any of the reports.
For example:
First Generation
1. Samuel Ackley, son of Nicholas Ackley/Hackley and Hannah Ford
Mitchell, was born in 1680 in East Haddam, Middlesex Co, Connecticut,
USA and died on Apr 27, 1745 at age 65.
Samuel married Bethia on Jan 3, 1700. Bethia was born about 1680 and died
about 1745 about age 65.
All of the "Unknowns" are then sorted at the beginning of the Name
List and you have the associated husband as part of the name.
For males, you can use the term "Husband" as follows:
Assume Beety Jones has a husband who we know a first name of Thomas:
Given: Thomas
Surname: [[Jones, Husband of Beety]]
This works well in the Name List and any reports that you might create.
You can replace the word "Wife" or "Husband" with other variations:
"2nd Wife", "Lover of", etc.
Try it, you'll like it.
