Hi Carol, Thank you for sharing the filing system you & Elizabeth have. It is quite similar to the William Dollarhide filing system. I have used the Dollarhide system since about 1986 with a few adaptations for using with Legacy. In the 20 years I have used it I yet to be unable to find document, information, book, CD, whatever quickly & easily. Another plus is you do not have stacks of stuff needing filing. Quick & easy 'to do it now'. No need to remember colors, MRIN, or have a chart explaining your filing system. Your system and the Dollarhide system are intuitive - surname, location. I think of the people in my database by name not by color or a number. Just the way my brain works.
The part you wrote about the spreadsheet is a wonderful idea!! Kind of a take off of Legacy's master source list only better. I have been keeping the data at the beginning of the general notes: REFERENCE LOG JONES MI 5 1860 U.S. Census Troy, Oakland Co. MI John Jones household SMITH IL 6 Birth certificate for Mary Smith 27 May 1910 Something like what is above, on the order of how Dollarhide taught. It works very well, just do a search & replace of general notes for Jones MI 5 and there are all the people referenced to it. I think your and Elizabeth's idea of the spreadsheet is a great improvement over the way I have been doing it. When you have time I would appreciate it if you would post how you do it. I am looking forward to it very much. What a wonderful users group this is!!! Ann New Mexico, USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "M.
