Hi Jon,

Just to avoid confusion and, perhaps help someone else, as one is allowed 6 weeks to register a birth a May birth could have been registered in July thus putting it in the 3rd Q (ie Sept). In particular this needs watching for November/December births which can be registered in the 1st (Mar) Q of the following year.

Jim,
The Q date format was introduced to  record a situation found in the United
Kingdom.  Registrations are reported  to the General Register Office on a
calendar quarterly basis and recorded in indices. Thus, a birth registered in May
of 1900 would be recorded in  Legacy as "June Q 1900."  (The month used in
the date is the third month of each quarter.) The pitfall for researchers is that an event recorded in, for example, the second quarter might actually have
occured in the first  quarter!
