The point of documenting sources is so that a stranger looking at your work (or you yourself in a few years) could know what to find and where to find it to get to the actual source if they want to prove up your work. If what you used and where you found it is clear, you are okay.
Using standard source methods enhances the certainty that others will understand your sourcing, but you can get to the point of the silly if you use all the capacities Legacy has for every source. I choose to assume that if I've pointed people to the right library and book they will be able to find the facts & quotes I've used. Others choose to associate a page and line with every fact. Neither is "right" or "wrong" for everyone, it depends on what you want to accomplish and what works for you. For a newspaper clipping it's critical that anyone can tell where you found it (The repository & call number, and a page number is very helpful) and what you found (the article description). Sounds like you have these covered. One problem I used to have was because I used the actual title as both title and source list name in Legacy. Then I had trouble finding some sources in Legacy when I wasn't on one of the people it pointed to. Make sure the list name will help YOU find it. (I know I used Grandma's diary for facts on lots of people, but what did I call it in the Master Source list? Come up with a consistent way to list things like this.) I left my source list name as it was with the newspaper as the title. I went to the Repository tab and entered the name of the society file along with the FO 4 p.95 in the Call Number line. It seems logical to me that this would work, but I don't have a lot of experience with entering sources so if someone sees a problem with this entry let me know. I also want to let you all know how much I appreciate all the good information I get from this list. Thanks to all of you!
