Reuters. 17 September 2001. IMF Meeting Indefinitely Postponed - German
Sources.

BERLIN -- German finance ministry sources said on Monday that the World
Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings originally scheduled to
take place in Washington for September 29-30 would be indefinitely
postponed.

"The IMF annual meeting will not take place and will be indefinitely
postponed," the sources told Reuters.

The sources added they were not sure whether, where and when a planned
parallel meeting of finance ministers from the Group of Seven
industrialized nations would take place.

Officials at the two international lenders, as well as local police,
have been pushing for the meetings to be called off after the terror
strikes in New York and Washington on Tuesday.

The IMF and World Bank meetings had already been scaled back to two days
because of the threat of violent protests by those who do not agree with
the institutions' policies.
