It was something of a joke (me being a Nokia employee, so I'm obviously biased).

That being said, I don't see anything challenging Qt any day soon in
native space (java, c# and web toolkits are a separate matter, and not
something you can really use from CPython). Qt is the future of Nokia,
and being resourced accordingly.
