This suggestion has finally restored a bit of sanity to me :-) Rewriting swig (or sip) would be more appealing if it were the only such tool that existed, but since there are two the desirability of rewriting either one is much less. Once I started truly to consider the negatives, the project seemed more and more dubious. Why should I want to intrude on somebody else's project by making massive code changes? And what would I, or anyone else, gain? As a thought experiment, rewriting a C program quickly is amusing. But actually doing so would be a big distraction. I think I've put such madness behind me.
