Some may require the links (but in my opinion that makes it poorly written software), while others such as http://www.mcmurchy.com/rmlcopydvd/ go after the /dev/{h,s,?}d{?} devices. It simply is not that difficult for software developers to poll the devices and figure out what they are, and what is available, though in all fairness, it sure would be nice to count on /dev/cdrom, /dev/cdrecorder, /dev/dvd/, etc., etc., being accurate. -- Randy rmlscsi: [GNU ld version 2.15.94.0.2 20041220] [gcc (GCC) 3.4.3] [GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.4] [Linux 2.6.10 i686] 19:33:00 up 1 day, 49 min, 5 users, load average: 0.10, 0.03, 0.01 -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
