 This sounds like another of the "all seds should use the same format"
complaints.  One of the purposes of LFS is to teach, that includes
scattering alternatives throughout the book.

 In particular, changing 'cat >/' to 'cat > /' is surely a waste of
an editor's time.  Anyway these aren't typos, they work.

 If it was an error in the book, it should have been reported to
this list or bugzilla/trac (whichever was current) after it was
uncovered.  Without more details, I'll file that problem under
"probable user error".
