I could agree to an extent, however, ever since I started with LFS 3.2 just using ftp to ftp.openssl.org and ftp.freebsd.org for openssl and openssh and then ftp.gnu.org for wget provides no super duper problems. I think if the group starts putting blfs tools into lfs then everyone will start coming up with requests to put this and that in LFS and that will mean there will be no more need for BLFS. Some people won't even care to have ssl or wget.
